Frequently Asked Questions

How would your approach help me when nothing else has?

Whether your objective is to reach your optimal weight, reduce food cravings, maximize energy, improve sleep or get to the root cause of your health challenges, I can assist you in achieving your goals in a way that is flexible and rewarding.

Symptoms, such as a common headache, eczema or lethargy, directly correlate with malfunctions in the body. Instead of treating a symptom specifically, I specialize in identifying and addressing the malfunction that is at the source of the problem.

Addressing health and wellness from a holistic perspective allows me to piece together how lifestyle, environmental and dietary factors are affecting your health.  Is a stressful work or home-life affecting your well-being?  Have you lost motivation to exercise due to lack of sleep or low energy?  Is your quality of life being affected by constant mood swings, digestive distress or headaches?  Together we will get to the root of the problem by uncovering hidden malfunctions using non-invasive state-of-the-art laboratory tests and in-depth consultations, then develop a natural protocol tailored to your individual needs.

How can I maximize my results and get the most of this program?

Ultimately, the best way to guarantee your success is to follow the recommendations step-by-step and to be consistent with your appointments. Much of your success depends on YOU. Also, it is very helpful if you’re honest with me about what is working and what is not. I regularly check in with my clients to make sure they’re receiving the support they need to be successful.    i

How have others been helped?

Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® Practitioners have helped thousands of people achieve a level of health that they have not experienced in years.  Clients with previously diagnosed medical conditions have, at long last, found solutions to their health problems.

Are you covered by insurance or can I use my FSA or HSA account to pay for your services?

My services are not covered by insurance but several of the laboratories accept FSA (Flexible Spending Account) or HSA (Health Savings Account) as a form of payment for the functional lab testing.  I generally suggest contacting your account administrator to obtain and verify the details.

What is your background and how did you become a functional health practitioner?

After personal health issues and witnessing family members suffer from 'incurable' medical conditions, I began to think outside the box.  Despite healthy food choices and regular exercise, I found myself with a number of health challenges including adrenal fatigue, blood sugar and thyroid issues, leaky gut, food intolerances and hormonal imbalances. On the outside, I was the poster child for good health because I lived the lifestyle our culture promotes as healthy. If I was doing all the "right things," why didn't I feel well? After failing to get answers from conventional medical practitioners, who often use a Band-Aid approach, the hunt for root causes and natural solutions began. Once I discovered the functional health field and I applied its principles, I began to feel well and regain my health.

I am dedicated to empowering people to regain lifelong, optimal health.  I work with people in the northern suburbs of the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, as well as worldwide.  I use tools that effectively detect internal malfunctions in the body.  These existing malfunctions not only affect how we look, feel, think and act on a day to day basis but if left undetected have the ability to cause more serious problems in the years to come.  Helping people reach their full potential and go on to live vibrant, healthy lives is my passion.

What is the definition of HOLISTIC?

In reference to health, holistic is defined as having regard for a person as a whole, as opposed to concentrating on an isolated set of symptoms.  In addition to observing the functionality of body systems with lab testing, using a holistic method involves taking into account how lifestyle, dietary, environmental and social factors are impacting a person's health.

What is involved with functional lab testing?

If laboratory testing is necessary for you, it may involve collecting blood, saliva, urine or stool; most of which are conveniently collected in your own home.  The results from these tests reveal imbalances that are at the source of your health complaints.

How does the functional approach differ from a conventional approach?

Looking at health from a functional perspective involves addressing the underlying causes of illness.  Utilizing this integrative and science-based approach engages both the client and the practitioner in a therapeutic partnership.  It is an evolutionary method that has been shown to be more effective in addressing modern-day health concerns.  As opposed to focusing on an isolated set of symptoms, functional health practitioners address each person holistically and individually; spending time discussing history and looking at genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that are influential on long term health.

The objective of conventional medicine is to establish the answer to "WHAT" - what disease, what pill.

As a functional health practitioner, my focus is detecting "WHY" - why is this person experiencing these symptoms at this time and in this way.  Testing the functional status of body systems can uncover underlying reasons why an individual feels unwell.

How does the process work?

My systematic approach involves extensive consultations, detailed questionnaires, scientific lab testing and unlimited support.  The initial complimentary consultation may be helpful in determining if my services are a good fit for you.  We will discuss your health challenges, goals and history.  Once our compatibility is determined, a customized plan will be established.  If laboratory testing is necessary for you, it may involve collecting blood, saliva, urine or stool; most of which are conveniently collected in your own home.  The results from these tests reveal imbalances that are at the source of your health complaints.

Upon receiving and analyzing your results, I will design a natural protocol specifically for you.  Support and encouragement are a must for progress and healing, so that is where much of my focus lies.  I take a personal approach to your health and am with you continuously through this transformational process.  We will use various tools to track your progress and healing. You will have the opportunity to play an active role in your health through shared commitment and an open line of communication between client and practitioner.   Working together for a minimum of three months is strongly encouraged.

What is the cost involved for your various programs?

Because you are unique, I do not use cookie cutter approach. Each plan can be customized to the individual.  The cost may vary depending on your needs.

How is online health consulting different from meeting in person?

Online consulting is the modern-day method of health support that compliments my clients' busy lives.  I aim to promote stress reduction by way of simplicity and convenience.  Communicating via phone, text, email or Skype™ allows us to connect frequently if necessary, speeds up turnaround time for distributing lab test results and saves you travel time and money by avoiding office visit fees.  Additionally, all of the lab tests are shipped directly to your door and most of them can be completed in the convenience of your own home.  As Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioners®, we have used this preferred method to work with thousands of clients and have found it to be exceptionally productive.
